This scroll outlines the common rituals found in the Free and Anarchic City of Lara and tLi. These rituals are specific to Us and should not be construed to be the ONE TRUE WAY. They are, however, meant to serve as a reference and as a testimony to the importance of ritual in everyday Gorean life.

The Home Stone Ceremony

(Performed Before at Least Ten Citizens)

The Free Person wishing to accept upon themselves the City of Lara as His/Her Home Stone rises and approaches a member of the Laran City Council, then states clearly His/Her desire to join City of Lara and His/Her intended adherance to its rules, standards, and level of insanity. By sheer coincidence, Oryx con Lara is a member of said Council. The Councilmember and the FP then move to the location if the City of Lara homestone and the candidate is blindfolded, as no non Laran can ever behold the True Home Stone. A Warrior of the City, acting as Sargeant-at-Arms, verifies to Oryx out loud that there are none present, save the Candidate, who are not Citizens of the City (or their property). Oryx reveals it, and intones the ritual words of welcome:

This is the ancient and sacred Home Stone of the Free and Anarchic City of Lara, for the time entrusted to tLi. This is Our Life, Our Home, Our Center. In the name of the City, I welcome You to its Citizenry, entitled to all the rights and priveleges thereof, and incumbant upon you from this moment forth the responsibilities that entails.

Kiss the Home Stone, and say,

“With this kiss I hereby accept upon Myself the defense of and love for the Free and Anarchic City of Lara.”

The FP kisses the Home Stone, and repeats the sacred formula. Oryx then gifts the FP with the Gold coin of Citizenship bearing the seal of Lara in token of his/her acceptance into the City.

Ritual of Free Companionship

The integral acts are the signing of the contract and the sharing of the cup of wine. All else is extra. That said, we consider this the most joyous of occasions, to be planned and anticipated and enjoyed by all who participate. Free Companionship is the cornerstone of Gorean life and is celebrated as such by Us.

Some logs of FC Ceremonies can be found:

  4. Take the small flaming brand from the brazier, thrust it into the salt, extinguishing it
    Say: "You are refused fire"

  5. Say: "You are herewith, by edict of the High Council of the Free and Anarchic City of Lara, commanded to begone from the City, to depart before sundown of this day, not to return upon pain of penalty of torture and impalement, before being thrown into the River for the urts to feed upon"

Collaring Ceremony to the tLi collar

Note 1 - Oryx must be present, but ANY tLi may collar to tLi, and are encouraged to do so. One of the Inn slaves should also be included.

Note 2 - After the ceremony, ensure that the kajira registers her new nick (or "groups" it to the previous one to avoid the delay of email confirmation), get her email address, have her join the tLi HouseOrgans © mailing list, then send an announcement email to the group to let the members of tLi know about the new slave.

Note 3 - It is wise to have the supplicant in PM with the tLi First Girl, or else an experienced Inn slave so that she will know what is expected of her. In particular:

  1. A slave is sent with the key to the locked cabinet with orders to bring two packages. In one are silks, in the other is the collar of tLi, made from tubular stainless steel, 2 mm thick, and 1 cm OD (outer dimension). The lock is internal, so the collar has to be cut away and cannot be unlocked. Be sure to get the key back!

  2. The supplicant approaches,

  3. >
The supplicant lowers herself humbly to her belly and presses her lips to His sandals (or boots). She then begs for the collar:

Master, this worthless slut seeks that perhaps You would wish to own her.

  4. FP: "Who will stand for this supplicant?"

  5. > Any who will vouch for the supplicant, rise and move to stand behind her at this time (Free People actually stand, kajira will kneel behind the supplicant). At minimum the sponsoring FP should stand with the kajira, unless it is at the behest of the owners that she is there. Any kajirae who have had a hand in bringing the supplicant to this point should also come forward.

  6. FP: "Is there anyone who would stand against this supplicant?"

  7. > Wait a decent interval to give the opportunity for those who are against the collaring to step forth and stand between the supplicant and the Owner. Should this happen, listen to the objection and give the opportunity to answer it. The final decision is in the hands of the Owner. Assuming the decision to continue is made:

  8. "FP: Supplicant, these people have stood for you"

[old nick] has come to Us to beg this collar, desiring to serve Us, desiring to learn and grow in the Ways of Gor with us, desiring to join our Family. She has been weighed, she has been measured, and she has been found worthy: she is accepted."

  9. The FP leans forward and slips the collar about the kajira's neck, leaving it open, then steps back. Another kajira preferably of the House assists, pulling back the Supplicant's hair.

  10. FP: "If you would dedicate yourself to Our service, to the comfort of our guests, and to your own continuing growth, then close the collar as the last act of your own free will, and join Our family. Once closed, it can never be unlocked, the lock is internal and has no key."

  11. Assuming the kajira closes the collar, the FP asks:
    > "What are you?" ("Your slave, Master")
    > "What is your name?" ("Whatever You desire it to be, Master")
    > "From this point on, you will be known as newnick{tLi} Change to Our gift, your new name, and group it to your last nick." (again, be sure the kajira knows how!) Be sure the new nick is registered.
  12. > "Now drop your previous nick." (in PM, be sure the kajira knows how!) Be sure the nick is deregistered.

  13. The assisting kajira helps the new kajira off with any old clothing if any, discards them in the hearth, and assists the new girl with her silks.

  14. The FP crouches before the kajira, grasps her shoulders and stands, lifting her with with Him, gazes into her eyes and hugs her before turning her to face the Assembled.

  15. "Citizens of Lara and honored guests! I give you newnick{tLi}! She is one of us, to be protected both here and abroad! Welcome to Our family, newnick{tLi}!"

  16. The FP turns her to face the Assembled again and gently pushes her out into the company of the Inn

The concluding act of a collaring is sometimes a quick serve of paga or other potable. The new slave should act as the primary server, assisted by the other slaves as needed.

Manumission Ceremony

Making a kajira, a Free Woman

Note 1 - Only Oryx can uncollar a kajira wearing the tLi collar.

Note 2 - A kajira who wishes to be Free, must first be owned. She must be owned long enough to show her submission, i.e., for at least one serve.

A warning to the unwary kajira. This act involves your submission to a Free Person (or to tLi) who could, if He chose, then collar you. Be sure you trust the person you choose to perform this rite.

Note 3 - If there is to be a new name, it should be decided upon BEFORE the ceremony so that all parties know it.

  1. Kajira approaches the Free Person and kneels before Him/Her, offering her submission

  2. FP asks, "Are you sure this is what you desire?"

  3. > If the answer is yes, continue

  4. FP accepts the submission of the girl. If she is in the tLi collar, then it is cut away and discarded. The FP crouches and raises the woman to her feet with Him/Her, and says,

  5. "Hear me! I, [Nick], the Owner of this kajira, have released [nick] from the collar of tLi and the bonds of her slavery, making her a Free Woman! Let all know that [Nick] is a Free Woman of Gor and a Citizen of the Free and Anarchic City of Lara!"

  6. FP (not a slave) leads the Free Woman to the side where dressing panels have been erected, and a female slave or Free Woman awaits to assist her, the new Free Woman disappears behind the panels

  7. The assistant speaks in actions of removing the slave garb, and then dressing the new Free Woman in her Robes of Concealment. The Robes consist of:

    1. Undergown
    2. Gown
    3. House Robe
    4. Hooded Robe
    5. Slippers
    6. The Five Veils

  8. The new Free Woman then steps out first from behind the dressing panels, and greets the channel with "Tal, I am [Nick] of Lara"

  9. She kneels in the style of a Free Woman by Oryx's side, and a kajira serves her her first serve as a Free Woman.

Un-Collaring Ceremony of tLi

to enable the kajira to take a personal collar

Note 1 - Only Oryx can uncollar a kajira wearing the tLi collar

  1. Kajira approaches the Owner, kneels before Him, and begs release of the collar of tLi

  2. Owner asks, "Are you sure this is what you desire?"

  3. > If answer is yes, continue

  4. "Who would step forth to claim this kajira?"

  5. >Free Person to Own her steps forth and claims the right

  6. "Is there any here who would stand against this claiming, let them step forth now."

  7. > Owner waits a decent interval. If any step forth, their objections should be answered before continuing.

  8. "Friend (or Citizen, or Lady), your claim is heard and accepted. Claim your kajira!"

  9. > Kajira assumes the position of submission, nadu, arms extended towards the FP with crossed wrists, head held to the right with hair drawn to the right, exposing the neck.

  10. FP moves to the kajira and brings forth Their personal collar, says whatever words of claimancy they deem appropriate, and collars the kajira

  11. > Kajira changes her nick at this time, first dropping the old nick and then registers the new nick

  12. The Owner reaches to the kajira and cuts away the collar of tLi. Note that at no time has the kajira been without a collar around her neck.

  13. Owner now steps back, any further ceremony is in the hands of the Owning Master.

Enslaving a Free Woman in tLi

Note 1 - Speak with the woman in private, ensure absolutely that:

  1. She is truly a Free Woman, not merely a released slave who capped her own nick
  2. This is something she wishes to do of her own free will.

Note 2 - Have witnesses, at least one other Free Person, but you can't have too many witnesses, the more the better. It's a very good idea to have a trusted slave in attendance as well, to help with the initial acclimation ot the new slavegirl.

  1. The Free Person performing the enslavement walks to the sands, takes a steel rod from one of the wooden posts, and draws the Circle of Enslaving in the sand, then stands back to watch the Free Woman

  2. "Do you desire to be slave, [Nick]?"

  3. > The Free Woman affirms that this is so

  4. "Enter the Circle and beg it, then!"

  5. > The Free Woman enters the Circle of Enslaving, strips herself of her Robes, slippers, and lastly, her veils, dropping all of it outside the Circle, kneels and submits, saying "I beg to be made slave."

An alternate submission, considered more legally binding and proper: "I, [Nick], of [City], of the [Caste] Caste, herewith submit myself as a slave girl. At Your hands this slave accepts her life and her name, declaring herself to be Yours to do with as You please."

  6. An assisting slave gathers the discarded clothing and commits them to the hearth, never to be used again.

  7. The Free Person asks the slave if she has anything further to beg of him

  8. > The slave may either beg his collar, or the collar of tLi.

  9. The Free Person places an appropriate collar on the new slave's neck, open, and continues as per a regular collaring ceremony.
